When hunting deer, it is a good idea to go where no other hunter will go, into the thick stuff and do not move a bit. A deer can see you even turn your head to look. By doing this, I have had six deer come within 15 feet from me and I didn't even need cover scent. jlb512 When hunting in a swampy area scout it very hard in the early summer and find areas where there is some dry land. So that when everyone hits the woods and the deer start to get spooked you can hunt that area, because the deer will go there to lay down during the day when hunting season is at its peek. Doing just this I bagged a 10 point last season in late November gofur29 When using rattling antlers to call in deer, don't just bang away with them. Rattle for about a minute and then stop for 15-30 minutes. Then, start again. If you see a deer and want to call it in closer try using a grunt call instead of the antlers. The deer might get spooked and run away. Also, while rattling, move the antlers around, rub them in some brush, and scrape the ground with them. This will resemble two bucks battling. Sean7 Another inexpensive masking scent baking soda. Always wash your hunting clothes in baking soda to kill odor. Also take a small spray bottle, add baking soda and warm water. Shake it well and take it with you. Spray yourself every hour or so. cmhunt1 While deer hunting from my tree stand I like to use a small spray bottle filled with my favorite deer lure and occasionally spray it and let the wind do the rest of the work, One only knows how far the wind can carry it? but it seems to work for me. mstrshot One of the best cover scent that has been so successful for me has been the proper use of raccoon urine applied to my drag bag and as a cover scent as I climb into my tree stand. I spray the tree and all around in my stand. I use this with the standard doe in heat in small containers about 3-4 feet off the ground. This has proven to be a habit I have used since I was stationed in N.J. and brought back to my home. I usually am finished hunting within the first two days and ready for the pheasant season. Like any good tips, months of scouting is just as important as being scent free. Good luck Mike C when using a grunt call use one with more than one tone call once with a real deep tone and the about 5 minutes later with a little higher tone then about 10-15 minutes later use some antlers and rattle a few times and wait 15 minutes and repeat up to three times killer0612 I always tape a ten inch piece of light colored thread to my gun and bow. This is the easiest way I have found to check wind direction, with only a glance, while on a deer stand. wmeriwether For years I would struggle with how I was going to handle my arrow quiver when I was going to go hunting. It wouldn't fit in my bow case, so I had to just through it in the back of the truck with all my other gear. (often resulting in arrow or fletching damage) Last year I bought a hard case for my bow, but was faced with the same problem. The case did have foam pads that were suppose to hold your hunting shafts, but you had to load and reload after each hunt, increasing the chance that I may cut myself in the process. To get over this problem I simply hot glued a spare Quicky Quiver mounting bracket on the bottom inside cover of my case. Now all I have to do when I'm about to go in the woods is slip my loaded quiver out of my case, and on to my bow. When I return, it slips right back into the case. Hunt safe, hunt smart. Curt Drexler If you use metal stands (portable or climbing), use foam pipe insulation and a few cable ties, and you will be much more comfortable and QUIETER. Only takes about $4 per stand to cover edges, sides, etc. Also makes it quieter as you transport through the woods. Not many sounds are as alarming to a deer as metal clanging in the woods. Good luck! llanier
