Deer Hunting

Deer Hunting Safety Tips

Deer Hunting Comfort Tips

Being in the woods in the early season can be both hot and full of mosquitoes. Although there is no escaping the heat you can avoid the mosquitoes even without repellant. To do so, you have to finding your local wax myrtle bush, take off the leaves and rub them on your exposed skin. Although it does not work as well as repellant, it will make the woods bearable and it is natural smelling and free.
Always let someone know what tract of woods you will be hunting. If possible explain in detail where the stand is, also give a time frame on when you will return to the camp or house. If something happens ""someone"" will know where to start looking for you if you don't arrive at the camp or at home in a given time frame.
There are lots of cover scents on the market. The best I have found comes from Mother Nature. I try and put my stand near pine trees. On the way to my stand I will pull some pine needles of a sapling and rub them all over me.
When pushing deer with a number of fellow hunters always be aware where your stationary and fellow pushers are, this will make for a safe hunt.
Always wear blaze orange when moving around the woods or to and from your stand.  Also when tracking a wounded deer.
Please hunters make sure of you game before you shot at might be your  friend.
Take a rope with you if you are using an elevated stand that you'll have to climb up to.  You can safely haul your rifle up or lower it down without fear of it falling and discharging in your direction.  If you rig it properly the muzzle will not be pointing at you or the ground.  Also you can secure your rifle once you are situated so that if you do drop it, it will not reach the ground and fire.
Always be sure of your target before you ever take your safety off.
You should always try to hunt with a partner. On opening day while in the woods I had a heart attack. I was hunting with my son . I'm not sure if I could have made it on my own. I am 45 years old and in great health,so I thought. Tip # 2!!!! EAT LESS FAT!
